Oracle PBCS Pricing
Data centers or cloud servers where PBCS is hosted are owned and maintained by Oracle. Since there is no CAPEX infrastructure cost, virtually no learning curve, and minimal IT resources are required, the PBCS solution can be used by a company of any size. The cost structure for the PBCS is a per user per month license.
Maintenance Costs
Software versions are always up-to-date and maintained by Oracle, allowing clients to the latest and greatest version without requiring any downtime to upgrade. Oracle provides the test and production environments for every PBCS implementation. Oracle updates test environments first and then gives notice when updates are planned, what the changes are, and the issues that are resolved in the new version.
Loading Data
Financial Data Quality Management Enterprise Edition (FDMEE) is also part of the Planning and Budgeting Cloud and is used to load data to planning BSO (block storage) and ASO (aggregate storage) cubes. Planning data can be moved from the BSO to ASO cubes and other reporting data can also be loaded to ASO cubes directly. Data in PBCS can also be loaded through EPM Automate, a utility that enables you to automate certain common administrative tasks.
MOVING TO ORACLE PBCS
Ultimately, if you are considering the Oracle PBCS, you are either targeting a new implementation or a migration from on-premises (or hosted) to the cloud – Oracle calls this a ‘lift and shift’.
New Implementation Highlights and Considerations are:
• Eliminate normal start-up activities:
o Hardware procurement and setup
o Software procurement, install, and base configurations
• Access is provided in days with the new subscription
• Leverage new application wizard and configure the applications
• Focus on the data and FDMEE upfront, then functionality
• Can be accomplished in a few months
o Dependent on availability of requirements, a number of applications and their design complexity, the extent of data integration needed, and end-user (superuser) involvement Lift and Shift Highlights and Considerations:
• Investigate the Oracle’s Customer to the Cloud program
• Pre-built modules (e.g. CapEx, etc.) do not yet port
• You may need to change the data integration approach
o Shift to simplified, file-based approach
• Regression testing is still needed
• Can be accomplished in weeks
o Again, this is dependent on the number of applications and their complexity, components needing testing (reports, forms, etc.), the extent of data integration changes needed, and the availability of regression test scripts.
In 2018, Oracle led the pack with a 27.2% market share riding on a 4.2% jump in EPM license, maintenance and subscription revenues.
